There's a pretty good interview with him on a new Joe Cole podcast that's worth a listen if you've got a spare hour.

Just noticed Stuart Pearce is on there this week, no doubt that'll be worth a listen too.

Both. Good news, I'd think.

Re: The Return of Noble
yay lets employ a novice.

if we need a sporting director cant we just go out and get an experienced one with a proven track record?

Re: The Return of Noble
Nice to see him back at the club in some kind of capacity, but personally I'd be choosing someone with experience of that role. He's also probably far too close to the board and manager to be in that position, IMO.

I do hope it works out though.

Re: The Return of Noble
Sounds like a non-job to me. What exactly will be his roles and responsibilities?

What is it with this modern day trend of bringing back players to grandiosely named non-jobs? Just bring him back as a club ambassador, as that is essentially what this non-job is likely to be (representing the club through grip and grins etc.)!

Re: The Return of Noble
Two ways of looking at this really. Is his return going to undermine the manager or undermine the players? I don't care either or personally, but he should have been kept on in any capacity given what he did for the club.

Why did Stuart Pearce leave?

Certainly makes you wonder.

What a strange two ways to look at it.

Why do you say that?

Re: The Return of Noble
If you had retired LJC and then a few months down the road, your former employers asked you back, what would you think? But then that wouldn't happen with you based on your stupid response

LJC 1:15 Thu Sep 22
Re: The Return of Noble
You think that it’s a stupid response that i find it strange that you reckon a club legend, literally called Mr West Ham, has only been asked back to the club for one of two reasons, to undermine the manager or undermine the players?

Ok mate. You carry on.

Re: The Return of Noble
If they thought his appointment would do either, surely they wouldn’t have asked him back? And thinking about it, why would it do either?

Takashi Miike 1:20 Thu Sep 22
Re: The Return of Noble
pointless appointment, they need to be looking at what's going on during matches - not adding another fucking suit to the boardroom

Not against him coming back, but this is just a made up job. Sporting Director, lol.

Re: The Return of Noble
I doubt he'll be a sporting director in the way of European clubs (ie above the manager in the hierarchy).

Apparently his duties include, "Academy development, player recruitment, and player and staff wellbeing – with a particular focus on ensuring players both progressing through the ranks and new to the Club are nurtured in the West Ham United football philosophy and values."

Sounds to me like it's an extension to what he was doing as club captain.

Re: The Return of Noble
Someone mentioned on another thread possibly Noble being a missing factor between this season and last- a galvanising and unifying voice in the dressing room and behind the scenes.

Maybe there's quite a lot of truth to that, and we're falling a bit flat, and he's coming back to be that person who can rally everyone.

Who knows. Be good to have him back, though.

Re: The Return of Noble
Well it definitely seems that he has been missed in the dressing room !!!!!
Well pleased for him as he loves the club and I'm sure he'll be an asset to WHU.

Re: The Return of Noble
this is them deflecting and showing their contempt for the fans again. like a pet owner giving their dog a biscuit to shut it up. "I know what will quell the unrest towards the dinosaur manager, we'll bring back Mr West Ham in a non role that will have zero impact on the first team but not until the new year". 😂

Lee Trundle 1:28 Thu Sep 22
Re: The Return of Noble
Do you not think he was always going to come back to the club in some sort of capacity, Miike?

Agreed ted

Welcome back Nobes!

LJC

Obviously something is missing since he left. So the board maybe thinking, I am not saying that for definite, bring Noble back and he might steady the ship. Being that he is Mr West Ham. I personally think he should have been kept on and his departure, along with Pearce have highlighted major cracks that were bubbling under the surface.

The point I was making is, is it down to the players or the Manager? Was Noble more underestimated than we all realised? Answer that question in more detail please LJC.
